Embrace or Fear AI? See the Work That Went Into Making THIS AI Thriller!
In a world where AI is becoming more prevalent by the day, some of us are questioning what this could mean, long-term.
Gareth Edwards, director of The Creator, wanted to inspire audiences to ask themselves these hard questions regarding the embracement of AI. Let’s dive deeper into his unique view of a future where humans and AI attempt to coexist.
The Creator
The Walt Disney Company sat down with Gareth Edwards to discuss his new film, The Creator. The sci-fi thriller takes viewers to the year 2070, where the human race is at war with AI. AI has demolished Los Angeles, leading Western governments to ban AI, while Eastern areas continue to embrace AI as equals.
The story follows Joshua, who is tasked to hunt down the Creator–the architect of AI who has a weapon to end the war…and mankind. After crossing enemy lines, Joshua discovers that the weapon comes in the form of a child, Alphie.
Gareth Edwards filmed the movie in 80 different locations across Cambodia, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, Thailand, Vietnam, the U.K., and the U.S., in order to make the film feel as real as possible without using a green screen or motion capture suits. Gareth Edwards credits this style to Disney Legend, George Lucas, who said to “…change about 25% at most and let the rest stay as is.”
He also took the approach of doing post-production design work after filming had wrapped, in order for them to see what worked–without the design effects. They also used a lightweight camera system with multiple configurations, so they could shoot “on the go” with high-resolution images.
Critics are raving about The Creator, which makes sense with all of the care and love that went into its production. You can watch it in theaters, now. And we’ll continue to keep you updated with the latest in all things related to Disney, so stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com!
