Hurricane Dorian Brings New Baby to Disney’s Animal Kingdom
I am always looking for silver linings and I am happy I have one adorable one to report on the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. Hurricanes have been known to cause moms to go into labor and that appears to be the case with one of the elands at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World.
While Disney’s Animals, Science, and Environment Cast Members were busy taking care of the the herd during the storm a new baby eland was welcomed into the world at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The new eland’s name is Doppler in honor of its post-storm arrival. The gender of the baby has not yet been confirmed but the little one has already taken its first steps.
Mom and baby are bonding well and currently being tended to off stage but should be wandering the savanna at Disney’s Animal Kingdom shortly. A a neonatal exam in the coming days will be performed to get a gauge on the calf’s weight, height and gender.
The new baby eland was born as part of a species survival plan in partnership with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
Our well wishes go out to the new mom and baby eland! I can’t wait to see them on the Kilimanjaro Safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom soon!
