Colossal Snacks, Disney Parks Edition- Part 3
ANIMAL KINGDOM
Welcome to the third round of this massive four-park snackdown! So far, we’ve delved into the depths of what Hollywood Studios and Epcot have to offer by way of colossally big snacks, and today I’m so excited to announce that the next chapter in this story is a bit of a wild one: Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We have already covered the best of the big snacks in Hollywood Studios and Epcot, so if you missed those, you can catch up on them here and here.
The treats featured in this colossal snacks series have to meet two very important criteria: they have to be big, and they have to be tasty. We are not interested in snacks that aren’t packed with flavor, so we taste tested all of the following snacks and can insure they are all worth of a thumbs up on flavor…and size!
Breakfast
There is no better place to begin your day- or this article- than with an item boasting its colossal size right in its title! The Colossal Mickey Cinnamon Roll from Kusafiri Bakery is as delicious as it looks, featuring layers of cinnamon and pastry dough meticulously rolled into the three circles that ultimately come together to form the silhouette of everyone’s favorite mouse.
When I purchased my cinnamon roll, I knew I was in for a treat from the sweet waft of cinnamon sugar exuding from the plate. I was a little intimidated when the cast member reached over the counter and presented me with my cinnamon roll…how could I possibly finish it myself? The plate couldn’t even fit the whole thing! That being said, I’ll bring some friends the next time I order one of these; it can easily fill 2-3 people for breakfast. The only question is: who gets that middle portion?
If you’re feeding a small army, stay right where you are and pick up an elephant ear from Kusafiri Bakery. These are not my personal favorite and I’d never opt for one if I were on my own, but everyone else I’ve ever accompanied while they bit into their elephant ear has sung its praise. As you can see, they should probably get some larger plates in stock at Kusafiri since all of their decadent treats are just so darn big!
Mid-Morning
Joffrey’s Coffee has a large presence on the Walt Disney World Resort property. In every resort hotel room, quick serve restaurant, and at locations in ever park, Joffrey’s provides the coffee for caffeine craving park guests. Royal Anandapur Tea Company, located in Asia, boasts a long list of specialty teas (and coffee too) you can only find at this one spot! It’s true that the treats at Joffrey’s are pretty much the same at every location, but believe me when I tell you the apple fritter from Royal Anandapur was made to pair with tea!
The glaze on the fritter is thick and sweet and once you crack its shell, the chewy, dense pastry dough dotted with apples combines with the glaze to make magic in your mouth. Order a hot tea to pair with it and this mid-morning pick me up will send your taste buds into overdrive! As for its size…let’s just say my family and I order one apple fritter to feed the whole group! All the pastries from Joffrey’s are enormous, but trust me, the apple fritter never fails to deliver.
A Cookie as Big as Your Head!
This one is a real kid pleaser. The decorated cookies found across Walt Disney World Resort come in all sorts of adorable colors and designs. Depending on where you purchase yours, expect the cookies to be decorated to perfectly fit with the theming of the resort hotel or park you’re visiting.
The animal pattern cookies from Zuri’s Sweets in Animal Kingdom are equally as adorable as they are enormous. The sugar cookie base is covered in a colored vanilla frosting, and then finished in the style of the parks’ animals the bakers drew their inspiration from! The vibrant designs attracted the attention of my cousins on a recent trip, and the smiles plastered on their faces as they each held their own cookie was priceless. Although, if I had it to do over again, I would order one cookie for them to share since their sheer size only allowed them to get through one Mickey ear each!
Look Past the Dole Whip
Finally, it’s time for my favorite of the colossal snacks at Disney’s Animal Kingdom! A treat is automatically elevated with a hand scoop or two of ice cream. A treat is elevated further if you add chocolate into the mix. So when I first sunk my teeth into the Double Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich at Tamu Tamu Refreshments, I knew exactly which treat I’d save for last.
More popularly known as ‘the place with the Dole Whips’, Tamu Tamu’s less popular ice cream sandwich is what will keep me coming back. The hand scooped vanilla ice cream is piled between two absolutely gargantuan double chocolate cookies. The cookies are truly double chocolate as the chocolate-based dough is chock full of chocolate chips, proving texture and contrast in each bite! The cookie was a little on the hard side, but only because it is served cold. Before you bite into the massive sandwich, you might want to re consider your eating methods- my first bite sent ice cream shooting from the opposite side of the sandwich! Learn from my mistake and don’t waste any of that precious ice cream, especially on a hot Florida afternoon!
If you couldn’t tell, series of colossal snacks covering the four Disney theme parks gets me excited. Like, really excited. Deciding where to use those Dining Plan snack credits is a tricky game, especially when you’re trying to get the most out of your dollar. The snacks on this list are certainly worth their price because not only did they pass my very rigorous taste tests, but any one of them can easily be shared 2-3 ways! Which of these snacks will you try on your next visit to the Animal Kingdom?
