This Day in Disney History: December 13
Welcome back to our fun-filled trip through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- December 13.
December 13th featured the release of a classic Disney film, a direct to video sequel and an update on Walt Disney World’s newest theme park. Lets get going!
Fire Chief is Released (1940)
On this day in 1940, the Donald Duck cartoon Fire Chief was released.
Directed by Jack King, the short featured Donald Duck as a fire chief attempting to put out a fire in his own building. Huey, Dewey, and Louie also appeared the cartoon working in the fire station.
Bedknobs and Broomsticks Debuts (1971)
On this day in 1971, Bedknobs and Broomsticks was released.
The film starred Angela Lansbury, David Tomlinson, and Roddy McDowall. It told the story of a witch, 3 kids and a con-man searching for a magic spell to defend Britain during World War II.
The film would go to be a box office success, and would eventually be nominated for five Academy Awards.
Disney Gives EPCOT Update (1976)
On this day in 1975, Disney announced that they would begin construction on EPCOT in 1976.
The company had originally planned on beginning the construction of the eventually theme park in 1977.
EPCOT Center would eventually open to the public on October 1, 1982.
Kronk’s New Grove Released (2005)
On this day in 2005, Kronk’s New Groove was released.
A sequel to the 2000 film The Emperor’s New Grove, the direct-to-video film starred former meddler Kronk as he ran a bustling pizza restaurant.
Disney Channel Holiday Party Aired (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, The Disney Channel Holiday Party @ Walt Disney World aired on the Disney Channel.
The holiday special starred Meg Donnelly and Milo Manheim from Disney’s Zombies 2. The show featured holiday festivities and obviously songs.
