This Day in Disney History: December 4
Welcome back to our journey through the history of the Walt Disney Company. Today we are looking at the events on the is day in Disney history- December 4.
December 4th featured the debut of a new Disney miniseries, the opening of an attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the return of three classic Walt Disney World figures. Let’s get going!
Mars and Beyond Airs (1957)
On this day in 1957 the Disneyland episode “Mars and Beyond” aired.
The episode was the third installment in a series about space exploration. The show was hosted by Walt Disney and a mechanical man named Garco.
Disney voice artist Paul Frees also starred in the episode as the narrator.
Daniel Boone Debuts (1960)
On this day in 1960, Walt Disney Presents debuted the first episode of Daniel Boone.
The new miniseries told the life of Kentucky pioneer Daniel Boone. The series starred Dewey Martin as Boone, and would total four episodes.
Star Wars Launch Bay Opens (2015)
On this day in 2015, the Star Wars Launch bay opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The new walkthrough attraction helped promote the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens film.
Inside the Star Wars Launch Bay guests could see artifacts from the film series and meet characters such as Kylo Ren, Chewbacca, and BB-8.
Three Caballeros Animatronics Come to the Gran Fiesta Tour
Also on this day in 2015, Audio Animatronics of the Three Caballeros were added to the finale of the Gran Fiesta Tour at Epcot.
The figures originally appeared in the Mickey Mouse Revue, which ran at the Magic Kingdom from 1971 until 1980.
Following the attraction’s run at the Magic Kingdom, it was moved to Tokyo Disneyland, where it continued to run until 2009. The figures then finally returned to Walt Disney World in 2015.
The Animatronic figures replaced an animated scene in the attraction’s finale.
