Disney’s Encanto Earns Three Grammy Nominations
Walt Disney’s Encanto continues to pile up awards, this time for its stand out soundtrack. Today, the 2023 Grammy Nominations were released, and Encanto has been nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
A Major Success
The Encanto soundtrack topped the US Billboard 200 for nine weeks, giving it the second longest run at number one of the 2020s. Propelled by the number one single “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” the soundtrack has proven to be smash hit.
Should Encanto win the award, it would be the first Disney Animated film to win Best Complication Soundtrack since 2011’s Toy Story 3.
The immensely successful Disney film is up against tough competition for the Grammy however. Elvis, West Side Story, Top Gun Maverick, and Stranger Things: Season 4 Vol make up the jam packed category.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s work on Encanto also managed to pick two more Grammy nominations, including Best Score Soundtrack. The hit single “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” was also nominated for Best Song Written for Visual Media.
An Awards Machine
While three Grammy nominations is nothing to sneeze at, there were pre-announcements expectations that Encanto could compete in one of the Grammy’s “Big Four” categories.
The categories that make up this group traditionally are song of the year, record of the year, best new artist and album of the year.
Despite the perceived snub by some Grammy experts however, Encanto has no shortage of accolades. The film earned three Golden Globe nominations, and took home the Best Animated Feature Film Award.
At the Oscar’s the film was up for Best Original Score and Best Original Song. In addition, the film took home a win in the Best Animated Feature category.
The 2023 Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, Feb. 5, from Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena. Tune in to see how Encanto fares!
