Disney Features First Plus-Sized Protagonist in Short Film ‘Reflect’
Walt Disney Animation took to Twitter today to give fans a first look at their Short Circuit Experimental Films for 2022 and one in particular is attracting media attention. One of the animated shorts called “Reflect” tells the story of Bianca, a plus-sized protagonist struggling with body dysmorphia.
In the film, Bianca is a ballet dance who “battles her own reflection, overcoming doubt and fear by channeling her inner strength, grace and power.”
According to a piece in the NY Post, ‘Reflect’ is directed by Hillary Bradfield who also worked on both Frozen 2 and Encanto. In the brief clip (which we’ll share with you below) Bianca can be seen practicing ballet in the mirror as the image reflected back to her begins to break apart symbolizing her negative self image.
