New Details on Disney Skyliner Emerge Including Our First Look Inside Gondolas
Thanks to our friends over at the Orlando Sentinel, we have lots of new information to share about on the highly-anticipated Disney Skyliner transportation system coming to Walt Disney World this Fall. Gabrielle Russon of the Orlando-based newspaper was invited over today to get a glimpse inside the gondolas and get all the important details we’ve been waiting for!
With the information received from Orlando Sentinel, I have been able to answer some of the most popular questions we have received:
How Fast Will the Disney Skyliner Travel?
The Disney Skyliner will operate at 11 mph. The gondolas will be constantly in motion even when they are at the stations. However, Cast Members will be able to pause the flow of the gondolas if a Guest may be transferring from a mobility device or need some extra time to get onboard.
What Areas will the Disney Skyliner Connect?
Over six miles of cables will connect the Disney Skyliner between Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney Riviera Resort, Epcot, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort will share the same station.
How Many Guests Can the Disney Skyliner Gondola Accommodate?
Each Disney Skyliner can hold up to 10 Guests. A wooden bench will line two sides of each gondola. The entire Disney Skyliner system is said to hold about the same amount of Guests as the Monorail system.
What is the Average Ride Time on the Disney Skyliner?
The average on a Disney Skyliner is expected to be between five and 15 minutes.
How High Will the Disney Skyliner Gondolas Be?
The Disney Skyliner gondolas will fly high above Walt Disney World ranging in height from 15 feet to 60 feet. A ride on the gondola will offer Guests an amazing view of the Walt Disney World Resort.
What Colors Will the Gondolas Be?
As we previously reported, most gondolas will feature some of your favorite Disney characters including Chip & Dale, Pluto, and many others. Not all gondolas will feature graphics but will rather be painted in vibrant colors.
How Will Guests Keep Cool in the Gondolas Without Air Conditioning?
Ever since it was confirmed that the Disney Skyliner Gondolas will not have air conditioning, everyone has been wondering how will Guests stay cool under the hot Florida sun.
Thomas Mazloum, a Disney senior vice president who oversees transportation and resorts, said, “We have specifically designed them with the Florida climate in mind.” He added that each gondola is equipped with reflective windows designed to block the sun and vents for cross-ventilation.
When Can I Take a Ride on the Disney Skyliner?
Disney has yet to confirm an exact date but the Disney Skyliner system is scheduled to open this Fall. If you have recently visited Walt Disney World, you might have been lucky enough to see the gondolas in motion. This testing will continue until Cast Members are the first ones to test out the new transportation this August.
