“Disney Speedstorm” Races Toward Nintendo Debut
Have you ever been scrolling through the character select screen on MarioKart and wished you could select Mickey Mouse? Well, you are in luck. During Nintendo’s quarterly “Nintendo Connect” yesterday, they announced a new free-to-play game called “Disney Speedstorm.” The game is a combat racer developed by Gameloft due to release sometime this summer.
Based on the video trailer released by Nintendo, the game features a hero-based narrative starring both Disney and Pixar-related courses and racers. Each character has unique abilities tailored to their persona. Mickey Mouse, for example, has “symphonic speed” where he conducts with his arms as his cart races ahead leaving music stanzas in his wake. Sully is given “monstrous power” which knocks all the other players out of his way.
Taking a page from Fortnite, the game will be free to download on Nintendo Switch, PC and other unnamed consoles. The presentation mentioned crossplay, which means anyone can play each other from any device. For local gaming, there will also be a split-screen mode.
Also similar to Fortnite, the presentation mentioned seasons. This means new tracks, racers, modes or themes will be regularly released to shake up gameplay. The game will most likely contain paid DLC to unlock unique items.
“Disney Speedstorm” Ready for 2022 Release
Gameloft is a French game studio founded by one of the originators of game giant, Ubisoft. They usually specialize in mobile games and found major success with their “Asphalt” series. They are no stranger to the Disney license, creating previous titles “Disney Magic Kingdoms,” “Disney Getaway Blast” and “Lego Star Wars: Castaways.” According to yesterday’s announcements, “Disney Speedstorm” is set to release sometime this year for both game consoles and PCs.
