We Pay Homage To Five of our Favorite Disney Felines During the Year of the Tiger!
As we plunge headlong into the Year of the Tiger, we wondered whether Disney had any tiger characters in films and cartoons over the years that would be fitting mascots for 2022! We’ve come up with a handful of fantastic felines from the beloved to the slightly obscure!
So let’s dive in and celebrate the Year of the Tiger DIsney-style.
Tillie Tiger (Elmer Elephant, 1936)
We kicking off our countdown with a slightly obscure but positively loveable tiger – Tillie! She first made her appearance all the way back in 1936 in Silly Symphony. She is known as the love interest for Elmer Elephant!
The are an unlikely couple but absolutely adorable non-the-less.
Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)
Back in 1967 Shere Khan emerged as a villainous presence in the harmonious jungle existence of Baloo and Mowgli. Disney decided to kick things up a notch in their live-action adaptation of the film in 2016 making this version of Shere Khan even more intimidating than the original and voiced by Idris Elba.
Rajah (Aladdin, 1992)
Out of all the princesses, I personally have always thought that Princess Jasmine had the best animal sidekick in Rajah the Bengal Tiger. Equal parts protector and friend, he may be a little rough around the edges but has managed to purr his way into our hearts!
Tigger (The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, 1977)
What’s not to love about his bouncy tail, infectious positivity and his loyalty to Pooh! As a matter of fact, Disney California Adventure thought that Tigger was such a nice fit for this year’s Lunar New Year festivities that he has a special meet and greet!
Chandu (Tokyo Disney Resort)
We head to the other side of the world for our last beloved tiger friend! Its Chandu! For those unfamiliar you’ll find him on Sinbad’s Storybook Voyage at Tokyo DisneySea where he has become a fan favorite!
There’s still time to celebrate Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. The festivities run through February 13, 2022 and feature special parades, characters, cuisine, merchandise, entertainment and more!
