New “Moon Knight” Trailer Coming Monday
The NFL Super Wild Card game is about to get crazy. Not because Matthew Stafford may win his first playoff game, but because Marvel announced the release of a trailer for their newest entry on Disney+, “Moon Knight.”
Created by Jeremy Slater, writer and producer of Netflix’s “Umbrella Academy,” “Moon Knight” tells the story of Mark Spector. Spector suffers from dissociative identity disorder and is possessed by the Egyptian god, Khonshu. This character dates back to 1975 and is built on the question, “What if Batman was mentally ill?”

Like Batman, Moon Knight has no superpower beyond occasional mystical visions. He relies on athletics, technology, advanced combat skills and intelligence. In some comics, it’s even hinted that his relationship with the Egyptian deity is completely in his head due to his mental illness. Spector manifests his powers through four identities: billionaire businessman Steven Grant, taxicab driver Jake Lockley, red-haired little girl Inner Child, and suited consultant, Mr. Knight.
“Moon Knight” was previously teased during Disney+ Day with scenes shown on the “Marvel Studios’ Disney+ Day 2021 Special.” That 30-second clip featured Oscar Isaac running scared through a museum while featuring some of the voices of his alter-egos. It also showed the Moon Knight leaping through the sky and beating up on an invisible person in a bathroom.
This new teaser for a trailer has half the length, but shows many previously unseen footage. It opens with Issac tossing a Rubix cube while quickly cutting to a shot in the mirror that flashes between the costume of Moon Knight and Issac. After a few Egyptian pyramid establishing shots, we are given the first look at Ethan Hawke. It’s a blink, and you’ll miss it moment as he is almost unrecognizable with long gray hair. The identity of Hawke’s character is still undisclosed, but in an interview on “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” Hawke said that he “based (his) character on David Koresh.” Koresh was the leader of the Branch Davidians who were a cult who had a high profile run in with the U.S government during a siege of their compound in Waco, Texas.
The teaser has an interesting diversion with the Disney+ day teaser. During the “Moon Knight” beatdown in the bathroom there is actually a “person” that is being punched. Previously, it looked like there was no one there; however, now there is an odd gray-scaled body convulsing after every punch.
Clearly more answers (or questions) will appear and disappear when the actual trailer drops during the Monday NFL Playoff game. Or maybe not …
