Production Halted on Black Panther Sequel; Star Letitia Wright Suffering ‘Serious Injuries’
One of the most anticipated films of Marvel’s phase four slate is the follow-up to one of their best origin films; we now have news that production has halted on the Black Panther sequel as the film’s star Letitia Wright, is reportedly suffering “serious injuries.”
Coming from ComicBook.com, the news has surprised Marvel fans as the production for Black Panther Wakanda Forever has experienced yet another setback.
The pop culture website is reporting that, “the sequel will postpone production until January,” following news that, “star Letitia Wright’s injuries were more extensive than initially believed.”
Deadline.com also spoke on the reported delay in production, citing a return date of January; allowing the entire crew to reconvene after the conclusion of this year.
The entire Black Panther Wakanda Forever team reportedly received a note directly from Marvel head Kevin Feige, and producers Nate Moore, and Louis D’Espositio, according to Deadline.
It appears that the long-awaited sequel has yet again experienced some incredibly unfortunate news relating to its development and production, and one can only feel sad for the cast and crew working tirelessly to deliver a film worthy of the immense impact of the first film, and the legacy of its star.
Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing at such a young age was a horrid reality that the creative team must confront for the sequel; foregoing their own ability to mourn and grieve the death of someone who was undoubtedly their close friend, the film was forced to move forward with hopes of honoring his memory.
The film has been confirmed to introduce the character of Riri Williams, who carries the moniker of Ironheart in Marvel comics; a title she will hold in the MCU, as her own Ironheart Disney+ series has already been confirmed by the studio.
The news of Letitia Wright’s injuries is another untimely blow to production, as her character of Shuri is expected to carry a lead role in the film; carrying on the Black Panther mantle following T’Challa’s assumed canonical passing.
With production halted on the Black Panther sequel, we can only wait; a wait that will be worth it to finally see the fruits of the incredible tribulations facing this cast and crew.
