Christmas Decorations Start to Appear at Animal Kingdom
Our MickeyBloggers are over at Disney’s Animal Kingdom where it’s beginning to look a lot…like Christmas!?
That’s right! Halloween hasn’t even come and gone but Walt Disney World’s Christmas elves have already been burning the midnight oil to prep Animal Kingdom for Christmas.
On Discovery Island this morning, we were definitely seeing some of these season elements woven into our surroundings!
Rooftops are adorned with a beautiful pastel array of winter friends!
You can see a lovely reindeer, stunning birds and more!
These images are of the decorations that adorn the rooftops at Riverside Depot.
Many of the winter decorations are subtle and were designed to blend in seamlessly with the surroundings.
If you’re heading to Animal Kingdom this weekend, be sure to have your cameras at the ready and look up to capture images like the ones we’ve shared with you.
Below is a beautiful sculpture of nesting owls having a winter cuddle.
They are done in the same style as the owls, squirrels and fox that adorn the rooftops.
Below you can see another nesting bird getting comfy on the rooftop.
We think that Animal Kingdom has done such a fantastic job with this decorations and we’ll be seeing many more of them in the weeks ahead.
At night many of these decorations are illuminated which brings something magical to the Animal Kingdom after the sun goes down.
You can get a closer look at these lanterns with our squirrel friends below.
Each year, Disney World is known for it’s swift transition from Halloween to Christmas.
On the evening of October 31st most of the fall decorations are taken down and the winter/holiday decorations go up.
For those visiting starting the first weekend of November and beyond, you’ll see most of the Yuletide decor up at the parks.
We love the sculpture below of an owl taking flight.
And look at the texture in the reindeer’s antlers below.
If you look closely you can even see holiday greenery surrounding our nesting bird friends.
Also be sure to look at some of the streetlights you’ll find around Discovery Island.
We also noticed that this full display had gone up with some stunning bird sculptures.
Again the iridescent details would look beautiful anytime of year so they seem perfectly at home. 1
One of my favorite decorations has to be the owl sculpture above.
I love the way the set-up really gives a sense of motion.
Speaking of taking flight, just check out the beautiful flying-birds sculpture below.
The details on this are absolutely incredible and we think would make for the perfect photo op.
We’ll be visiting the theme parks regularly in the weeks ahead.
We promise to share even more winter decorations with you as we make our way to the different parks.
Highlights this Holiday Season at Disney’s Animal Kingdom includes:
- Merry Menagerie – This whimsical winter celebration awaits you at Discovery Island. By day, look for life-size, artisan-sculpted animal puppets—including reindeer, foxes and polar bears. And at night, colorful rooftop luminaries and bird lanterns light up the sky.
- Santa Claus Festive Flotilla – Sant Claus will be taking to the socially distanced waterways to wish you a Holly Jolly holiday.
- Donald’s Dino Bash Festive Flotilla – Move over Santa! Donald has a flotilla of his own where he’ll be waving to his adoring fans as he traverses Discovery River.
- Chip & Dale’s Festive Flotilla– Our favorite Chipmunk duo is also being given their own flotilla where they can show of their festive fashion-sense while getting guests to move to the rhythm of the holidays!
- Discovery Island Drummers Festive Flotilla – Speaking of grooving to the holiday beat, these colorful group of percussionists cruise along the Discovery River, entertaining Guests like you on the shore.
As you can imagine, the Tree of Life will also take center stage during the Yuletide Season.
Officially called Tree of Life Awakenings, this nightly moment is truly a sight to behold.
The tree of life gets a special holiday makeover.
During the holidays the beloved tree shimmers with sparkles and a heartwarming musical score.
