Rhode Island Park is Overtaken by Hocus Pocus 2 Set
A Rhode Island park is overtaken by the Hocus Pocus 2 set. However, the question is will they burn down the town!?!
A Village on Fire!
Filming for Hocus Pocus 2 takes place at Chase Farm Park in Lincoln, Rhode Island this week. Therefore, Route 123 near Chase Farm Park will experience periodic closures during the week.
There, crews built a set that portrays a life-size Salem, Massachusetts village from 1670. Also, there are whispers that Disney plans to burn down the set during filming.
Taylor Ryan, an air quality specialist from the State Department of Environmental Management, inspected the site on Tuesday. Ryan reviewed the area as part of an open burning permit application.
According to DEM spokesperson, Michael J. Healey, it is to burn down the village. The village includes nine wood-frame buildings; however, the buildings have one or more sides missing.
Taylor Ryan discovered, “They are not actually lighting the structure on fire. They are using ‘fire beams’ fueled by natural gas, so it looks like the building is on fire from the camera, but nothing will be burnt down.”
Safety Precautions
In addition, the beams and structures will have flame-retardant material. Ryan also stated, “This is better from our environmental perspective and also better for Disney, as they can do multiple takes of the scene.”
Disney coordinates with local fire departments to have a fire engine and utility vehicle on-site during the shoot. Also, two 500-gallon water tanks are there in case of an emergency.
Michael Healey expected Disney to burn the village. Healey stated, “We didn’t know it was going to be a fake fire until [Ryan] inspected the set.”
Hocus Pocus 2 is the sequel to the 1993 Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. The film stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy, who will return as the Sanderson sisters.
Information for Locals
So, if you are planning on visiting the set at this Rhode Island park, here are a few things to consider. First, Route 123 will close for 5 to 10 hours during the day or night for filming.
Announcements for the closures, Monday through Friday, won’t occur ahead of time. Therefore, travelers should plan for unexpected delays.
Second, there will be no parking on Route 123 between Manchester Print Works Road to Lincoln Woods State Park. Also, no parking at the intersection of Great Road and Break Neck Hill Road.
Third, Chase Farm Park is closed to the public. Of course, this is because Hocus Pocus 2 production took over this Rhode Island park.
Finally, police will patrol the back entrance from Hollywood Lane. They will also patrol hiking trails that lead into the park from Lonsdale Elementary School and Gateway Park.
