First Trailer for “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” Adaptation Brings Middle School Chaos to Disney+!
ZOO-WEE-MAMA! Disney has released the first trailer for the upcoming Diary of a Wimpy Kid animated movie! You’re going to want to check it out!
This upcoming animated movie is, of course, an adaptation of the iconic Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series by Jeff Kinney. Each book follows Greg Heffley, a hilariously imaginative middle schooler just trying to fit in.
With his embarrassing best pal Rowley, dysfunctional brothers Rodrick and Manny, and a whole world of other crazy characters, Greg gets up to so much mischief. And, by the looks of this trailer, fans of the books are in for a treat!
The newly-released trailer is full of snapshot clips of the film, which looks like it will perfectly align with the hilarious antics of the first novel.
Expect to see The Cheese, Fregley’s “secret freckle” and, of course, Greg’s journal (not a diary)!
The unique, fun animation of this movie perfectly reflects the classic cartoons illustrated by Kinney in his bestselling novels. The movie has been directed by Swinton O. Scott III, whose impressive cartoon resume includes work on Family Guy and Futurama. We can’t wait to see what’s in store beyond the trailer!
A series of live-action movies (starring two different casts, mind) have already been released, but we can’t wait to see a fresh, new screen adaptation of these amazingly hilarious books.
There are currently 15 books in the main Wimpy Kid canon, with a 16th on the way next month, and a happy handful of spinoffs. I personally can’t recommend these novels enough – they’re all laugh-out-loud hilarious and surprisingly relatable!

Diary of a Wimpy Kid will land exclusively on Disney+ on December 3rd. I’ll be watching – will you?
