While yesterday was “National Gingerbread House Day,” December is the month of Gingerbread Houses! And what better way to celebrate than viewing a time-lapse video of pastry chefs building the iconic Grand Floridian Gingerbread House!
Did you know that this year marks the 20th year that the lobby of the Grand Floridian has been transformed into sweet-smelling gingerbread spectacle? And as you can probably know, the gingerbread house doesn’t just go up overnight. It’s a months-long process that involves using a classic Austrian gingerbread recipe. The pastry chefs spend close to a total of 400 hours baking the 10,000 pieces that make up the intricate structure. After the base structure is complete, it’s time to decorate! Decorating the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House takes about a week with over 1,000 pounds of honey, 700 pounds of chocolate, and 600 pounds of confectioner’s sugar used.
The Grand Floridian Gingerbread House isn’t just pretty to look at and smell too! Guests can purchase the following items from the shop inside the Gingerbread House:
- Gingerbread Cookies
