5 Awesome Disney Programs To Watch This Weekend
As we enter the first weekend of the new year, Disney’s streaming and affiliate networks are brimming with awesome programs perfect for snuggling up on the sofa! You’ve got a Dr. Suess Favorite, an 80’s classic something for animal lovers and Hugh Jackman!

Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!—Friday, January 1, on Disney+
Let’s kick our list off with this delightful 2008 film based on Dr. Suess’ beloved book of the same name. The film tells the tale of Horton the Elephant (Jim Carrey) who finds a speck of dust floating in the Jungle and upon further inspection discovers that the speck is actually home to the city of Who-ville. He can even hear the residents called “Whos” but cannot see them. Horton quickly forms a friendship with Who-ville’s mayor Ned McDodd (Steve Carell) who promises to ensure the city’s safety. However, when Hortons neighbors refuse to believe that Who-ville exists it threatens the Who’s very existence. The film also features the vocal talents of Will Arnett, Carol Burnett, Bill Farmer, Isla Fisher, Dan Fogler, Selena Gomez, Jonah Hill, Joey King, Jesse McCartney, Niecy Nash, Charles Osgood, Amy Poehler, Seth Rogen and Jamie Pressly.
Dead Poets Society—Friday, January 1, on Hulu
Oh Captain, My Captain! Fans of this 1989 Touchstone Pictures drama can now stream it on Hulu anytime you like. The film is set in 1959 at an elite Vermont boarding school and follows English teacher John Keating (played by Disney Legend Robin Williams) who uses unorthodox methods to connect with his students who face incredible pressure to perform from both their parents and faculty. Over time the teacher forms a strong bond with his students including Neil Perry (Robert Sean Leonard), Todd Anderson (Ethan Hawke) and Knox Overstreet) inspiring them to “live boldly.”
The Wolverine —Friday, January 1, on Disney+
Hugh Jackman is back as mutant Wolverine in this 2013 film directed by James Mangold. This hero is lured back to Japan where he quickly finds himself in the shadowy realm of the yakuza and samurai. Pushed to the physical and emotional brink he is confronted for the first time with the prospect of death. What follows next is a journey to rediscover the hero within as Wolverine struggles to cope with the powerful ghosts and foes of his past.
The Incredible Dr. Pol—Saturday, January 2, at 9 p.m. ET on Nat Geo WILD
As promised, we’re kicking off the New Year with more Dr Pol! This season the team deals with a whole host of new cases requiring more grit, heart, humor and expertise than ever before. There’s lots of animals and lots of animal babies with the added challenges of Dr. Pol and the gang trying to continue their work through a global pandemic.
The Rookie—Sunday, January 3, at 10 p.m. ET on ABC
There’s a brand new season of the rookie starting on Sunday night. John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) is nearing the end of his training and will face his biggest challenge as an officer yet. Its time for Nolan to come face to face with the choices he has made, stating in the trailer, “I can’t undo the mistakes I’ve made, but I can help make them right,” he says in the trailer. “No matter what it costs me.”
