Grandad Steve Dobbs Brings Disney To The Backyard In This Amazing Theme Park Recreation!
Retired Engineer Steve Dobbs should win grandfather of the year in our books! A recent article in the Daily Mail showcases Dobbs, his fantastic grandkids and the magical transformation of Steve’s backyard into a theme park paradise!
With Disneyland still closed due to the pandemic, Dobbs has constructed his own miniature theme park in the backyard of his home in Fullerton, California so that his grandchildren still have an opportunity to experience the magic!
This makeshift theme park has been nicknamed ‘Dobbsland’ and features its own Main Street USA, Sleeping Beauty Castle and even a Matterhorn-themed roller coaster!
Dobbs is a retired Boeing engineer who began working on the theme park nearly 10 years ago creating a Pirates of the Caribbean ride for his oldest grandkids. Now that those kids are in their teens, his attention has turned to constructing a park for the younger kids.
We think you’ll agree that this is the ultimate stay-at-home playground! It’s also a labor of love for the whole family. During quarantine, Dobbs said that his 10-year-old granddaughter Ruby spent the shutdown working on a safari ride attraction for Dobbsland.
Dobbs said that he provided a bit of assistance but that his granddaughter came up with the concept and animation for the attraction. The ride uses a sled that stops at stations designed to represent different parts of the world.
Together grandad and granddaughter created an African Savanna scene, an Alaskan Wilderness scene and a South East Asia scene that even comes with a fake snake that the pair designed using a 3D printer.
The project is definitely a learning experience for the grandkids with Dobbs telling the Daily Mail that it’s a great way for them do learn real life skills and stimulate their imaginations.
Dobbs is retired from Boeing but still teaches part time at Cal Poly Pomona where his students have even lent a helping hand to the construction of the attractions in Dobbsland.
The Matterhorn coaster which reaches speeds of 12 mph was a senior project for 9 students at Cal Poly.
Safety was also paramount for Dobbs who said that he even hired the same team that approves Disney rides to come and give the attractions he created for his grandkids the seal of approval.
Here at MickeyBlog we were really moved by the lakes that Dobbs has gone to in creating a bit of Disney magic for his family to enjoy while his grandkids are staying-at-home. This is a story that we’ll continue to follow along with so keep checking in with us for further news and updates!
