Tortuga Tavern Closes Indefinitely at Magic Kingdom- Is the New Pirates of the Caribbean Lounge on the Way?
With all the hoopla going on at the Magic Kingdom surrounding the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, the new Country Bear show, and now the closure of the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade, it is easy to forget that there are other projects in the works at Disney World.
One of these forthcoming projects is the previously announced Pirates of the Caribbean lounge that is coming to Adventureland.

Although Disney announced the new Magic Kingdom bar at last year’s Destination D23, updates on the project have been few and far between.
What We Know About the Lounge
We know that the lounge will extend the story of Pirates of the Caribbean. We also know that it will feature the return of the attraction’s long-lost Barker Bird. The audio-animatronic parrot was last seen hanging outside Pirates of the Caribbean before the 2006 refurbishment of the attraction. He was then moved to the World of Disney store at (then) Downtown Disney.

While Disney has yet to announce where the new lounge will be constructed, the most obvious candidate is the lightly-used Toruga Tavern, which is located just across Caribbean Plaza.
Tortuga Tavern Closes Indefinitely
Interstingly, Torgua Tavern has been closed, and based on the restaurant’s website, it doesn’t look like it will be reopening for the foreseeable future.
A sign posted at the tavern reads “Ahoy Mateys- Out Plundering and Pillaging We Be…” and instructs hungry guests to visit the nearby Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe.
Tortuga Tavern is a seasonal restaurant and is often closed when the park is not overly busy. This closure, however, seems to be more significant.
Perhaps Disney is finally preparing to begin work on the Pirates of the Caribbean lounge.
