Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio Were Heavily Involved in the Production of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Daredevil: Born Again stars Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio both attended Disney’s upfront presentation earlier this week to give advertisers a sneak peek at the upcoming Marvel Studios streaming series.
It has been a long road to the finish line for Daredevil: Born Again, a continuation of the Daredevil Netflix series that ran from 2015 until 2018.
Since that time, both Cox (who plays the titular hero) and D’Onofrio (who portrays the antagonist Kingpin) have made the jump into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Cox first appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home before returning in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. D’Onofrio, meanwhile, portrayed Kingpin in Hawkeye and its spinoff Echo (in which Cox also appeared).
Both Stars Are Happy to be Back
On the Disney upfront red carpet, both actors sounded thrilled about the upcoming series.
“It’s a physically demanded show, which I love, I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Cox told Deadline on the red carpet. “There will come a time where I am not able to do it anymore, but for right now, just keep doing the best job we can and loving it. Feel incredibly grateful for still making this show, and hopefully, we got another ten years on us.”
Daredevil: Born Again was initially announced in 2022, with the expectation that the series would perhaps be a new take on the characters.
The Series Underwent an Overhaul Last Year
During last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, however, Kevin Feige and Marvel executives reportedly viewed the nine completed episodes of the series and decided that a creative overhaul was needed.
Marvel subsequently parted ways with head writers Chris Ord and Matt Corman before bringing Loki’s Justin Benson and Moon Knight’s Aaron Moorehead to helm the project.
Subsequently, Marvel decided to make the entire Netflix Defenders Saga canon and tie Daredevil: Born Again into the original series.
Cox and D’Onofrio Have Been Involved in Production
According to Cox and D’Onofrio, the two actors have been heavily involved in the development of Born Again.
“We’re on the phone all the time,” D’Onofrio said.
“We agree on almost everything. I read the scripts first, and I’ll text Vincent, and he’ll be like, ‘What do you think?” And I’ll be like, ‘I’m not saying til you read it.’ And then we’ll talk about it,” Cox added.
According to Cox, the difficult production of Daredevil: Born Again concluded just weeks ago.
Still, fans will have to wait a little while to see the finished project. Daredevil: Born Again will debut on Disney+ next March.
