Jon Watts Has Advice For Marvel’s Next Spider-Man Director
While Tom Holland sounds set to return for a fourth installment in his Spider-Man franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Peter Parker will have to do so without his longtime director, Jon Watts.
Following in the footsteps of Sam Raimi and Marc Webb, Watts created his own unique world for Spider-Man, albeit one set within the larger MCU.

After three films and billions of dollars grossed at the box office, Watts is stepping away from the franchise to work on his Disney+ Star Wars series Skeleton Crew.
Advice For the Next Director
As he gets ready to pass the baton on to the next Spider-Man director, Watts has some practical advice for the person who succeeds him.
“I have a very practical bit of Spider-Man advice, and I think every Spider-Man director goes through it. It doesn’t look good when someone is just swinging on a rope,” Watts told Collider.

“You think you’re gonna go in there, you’re like, ‘We’re gonna do it all practical. We’re gonna get a stuntman. We’re gonna be swinging around.’ It’s boring. It looks dumb. It looks like a monkey swinging on a vine when you put someone on just a rope. Don’t waste your time. That’s my advice to the next Spider-Man director.”
Holland Says He Is Involved in Spider-Man 4’s Production
While Marvel has not announced who will be directing Spider-Man 4, or even that the film is officially in production, whoever gets the job will have the expertise of Tom Holland to lean on.

Last month, Holland revealed that he was involved in the film’s development earlier on.
“This is the first time in this process that I’ve been part of the creative so early,” Holland said. “It’s just a process where I’m watching and learning. It’s just a really fun stage for me. Like I said, everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we’re not overdoing the same things.”

With Holland’s support and the full force of the MCU behind them, whoever directs Spider-Man 4 will be in good hands.
