The Reedy Creek Fire Department Has Officially Been Rebranded
Now that the battle between Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and The Walt Disney Company has died down, and it looks like the Central Florida Tourism District (CFTOD) is here to stay, the special district voted Wednesday to rebrand the former Reedy Creek Fire Department.
The agency, which provides fire and emergency services to Walt Disney World, will now simply be known as the District Fire Department.
Fire officials had unveiled the department’s new logo in January, but it wasn’t until today that the change was officially approved.
“It’s a wonderful new name and logo,” said Charbel Barakat, the CFTOD’s acting board chairman.
Change Is Afoot at the CFTOD
The rebranding of the Reedy Creek Fire Department comes at a time of change for the CFTOD. On Wednesday, board members also welcomed new administrator Stephanie Kopelousos, who will be replacing former administrator Glen Gilzean.
The Fire Department was one of the last vestiges of the former Reedy Creek Improvement District, which oversaw Disney’s Central Florida land from 1967 until it was dissolved last year.
Disney initially sued DeSantis and the CFTOD over the dissolution of the special district, however, the two sides reached a settlement last month. Following the resolution, Disney CEO Bob Iger called the resolution a “win-win.”
“This is a good thing for the state of Florida and a good thing for The Walt Disney Company,” Iger said.
When asked if the battle between Florida and Disney was over, Iger was optimistic but cautious.
“I would hope not, but I can’t speak for Governor DeSantis,” Iger said.
