Disney Files Permits Suggesting Massive Construction at Animal Kingdom
It looks like the long-awaited transformation of Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s DinoLand U.S.A. may begin shortly.
Disney has filed a new permit with the South Florida Water Management District for four Walt Disney Imagineering trailers, one contractor trailer, and 363 parking spaces. Perhaps more tellingly, the new permit outlines a road that leads from the trailer area to DinoLand.
The new 5-acre trailer compound will be located in a backstage area behind the Asia section of the park.
Is the DinoLand Transformation on the Horizon?
Originally hinted at in September 2023 at Destination D23, Disney seemingly has plans to transform DinoLand U.S.A. into a new area inspired by the Tropical Americas. Attractions in this new land would include an Indiana Jones ride replacing DINOSAUR and some sort of Encanto experience.
“Over the next decade, we’re going to have more projects underway than at any point in our history. Our sole purpose is to give you more and more of what you love about a Disney experience. And then surprise and delight you with things you never dreamed possible,” Disney Parks head Josh D’Amaro said at D23.
When the plans for a Tropical Americas landi in Disney’s Animal Kingdom were initially presented, they were framed as “Blue Sky” concepts. Later, however, D’Amaro said that Disney was “absolutely serious.”
“We’ve got so many stories to tell, we have so many things we want to make even better in the theme parks. My plan is to continue to share that with the guests. I know people are like, ‘My gosh, I can’t believe he’s saying this. Is he serious, is he not?’ The answer is, we are absolutely serious,” he said.
With construction permits now filed, an official announcement from Disney could come soon.
