Miriam Margolyes Turned Down a Role in ‘Agatha’ Because She Didn’t Want to Travel to America
When the WandaVision spinoff Agatha debuts on Disney+ later this year, it will boast a star-studded cast that includes Kathryn Hahn, Aubrey Plaza, and Patti Lupone portraying witches.
If Agatha’s producers had gotten their way, however, there would have been another witch in the series.
In a recent interview with News Corp Australia, Miriam Margolyes revealed that Marvel approached the famed actress about “a story about witches.”
Why Margolyes Turned Down the Role
Margolyes, of course, portrayed Professor Spout in the Harry Potter film series, meaning she is no stranger to the world of magic. In the end, however, it wasn’t Margolyes’s aversion to picking up a wand again that kept her from joining the Marvel series; it was that she did not want to travel to America.
“I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,” Margolyes explained. “So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million,’ and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it,’ so it just stopped.”
“Really, it’s a story about my own greed rather than anything else,” she quipped.
While Agatha will be bereft of Margolyes talent, both Marvel and the series stars have high expectations for the WandaVision spin-off, with Hahn describing it as “fabulous.”
When Will ‘Agatha’ Premiere?
At this time, we do not have a release date for Agatha. However, the series is expected to debut later this year.
