What Will Disney Be Like in August 2024
What will Disney be like in August 2024?
I don’t have Madame Leota’s crystal ball, as I’m pretty sure she’s using it right now.
Still, I can tell you a few tidbits about why you’ll love a late summer visit.
Here’s what you need to know about visiting Walt Disney World in August 2024.
Visiting Disney in August
The first thing you should know about a Disney visit in August is that the crowds will gradually shrink.
At the beginning of August, families will be taking the last of their summer vacations before the school year starts.
While every school system works differently, most classes begin in mid-August and seemingly start sooner each year.
For those of you who aren’t parents of school-aged children, that fact presents an opportunity.
Should you wait until the second half of August, you’ll discover smaller crowds.
Also, as we’re about to discuss, some season fare typically debuts this month, and you’ll be among the first to experience it.
Let’s Talk about August Weather in Central Florida
So, yeah. In case you hadn’t guessed, Florida gets pretty hot during the summer.
Also, 2024 has already started as a scorcher. January registered the hottest temperatures on record, and so did February.
I wouldn’t expect abnormally reasonable weather in August, either. But, on the bright side, it’s not as hot as July.
Over the past few years, Weather Spark has tracked the average high temperature in Central Florida as 90 degrees.
The range hovers between 85 and 94 degrees, which means you should expect mid-80s to mid-90s during the hottest parts of the day.
The average low temperature hovers at 76 degrees, giving you a fairly steady 15-degree range for what you can expect.
You needn’t worry about the warmth, as Walt Disney World hosts countless indoor attractions and even a few wet rides.
So, you’ll find myriad ways to beat the heat. As for the rain, well, that’s a similar story.
Yes, Central Florida will experience random rain showers in August.
In fact, the rainiest day of the year occurs on August 7th.
Guests will have a 68 percent chance of needing an umbrella on that date, but the chance of rain declines deeper into the month.
By the end of August, odds will hover around 60 percent.
Ergo, the odds suggest that you’ll carry a rain slicker on most dates of your visit.
On the bright side, the rain cancels some of the heat and humidity, though.
Of course, some outdoor rides will close during the rain, but there aren’t as many as you’d think.
Imagineers designed Walt Disney World quite cleverly.
What Will You Find at Disney World in August?
The 2024 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival starts in late July.
That date signifies a bit of a delayed start compared to recent years.
As such, I’m not sure whether the standard annual advice applies here.
Historically, what I’d say is that Disney often waits until late August to open a few of its Global Marketplaces.
I presume that’s still the plan for 2024, but it comes with an asterisk this time.
Still, the extra menu options are really just a drop in the bucket compared to all the Global Marketplace offerings.
There’s a reason why people closely associate EPCOT with the Food & Wine Festival. It’s the gold standard.
August guests will have their choice of dining and shopping options.
Also, don’t forget the Eat to the Beat concert series.
These are nightly concerts featuring many of your favorite bands of bygone years.
Remarkably, some would argue that this festival is NOT the best part of an August Disney visit.
Barring something unforeseen, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party should occur on several nights throughout the month.
In 2023, the Halloween party started on August 11th, with six events held overall that month.
A similar schedule appears likely this year, although I’d expect another date or two given the event’s popularity.
You’ll discover these special events available in addition to the typical summer fun at Walt Disney World.
Throughout the summer, Disney often adds extra entertainment, such as character greetings, to add some magic for park guests.
What Else Can You Do in Orlando in August?
Those who don’t mind a split vacation will discover a new activity at Universal Orlando Resort.
DreamWorks Land, a recently remade themed land based on DreamWorks Animation films, will open at Universal Studios Florida.
Families with small children will enjoy the new interactive elements, many of which are glorified play areas.
Similarly, SeaWorld Orlando unveils Penguin Track, a new roller coaster, this summer.
Patrons of the arts can watch a musical presentation of The Jungle Book from August 23rd through the 25th.
For sports fans, Orlando SC will host a couple of soccer matches throughout the month, but it’s a bit too early for football/basketball.
You will find plenty of concerts in the area, including Lil Baby.
Then again, if you want to watch a concert, you might as well just head to EPCOT and attend an Eat to the Beat show.
Remember that you can guarantee seats for these EPCOT concerts by purchasing an Eat to the Beat concert package.

Final Thoughts
Judging by tourist numbers, August remains one of the most popular times to visit Walt Disney World.
That wouldn’t happen unless tourists were having the times of their lives at the parks.
Yes, the weather will be a bit warmer, and yes, you may need to pack an umbrella.
Those are trifling concerns relative to the memories you’ll make, though.
Your family will treasure your time at the Food & Wine Festival, and if you attend the Halloween party, you’ll never forget that.
In short, you’ll treasure a Disney trip in August, just like you would during any other month.
There’s never a bad time to visit Walt Disney World. August is simply more popular than most.
