‘Shang-Chi 2’ Is Reportedly Set to Start Production Next Year; Could Include Iron Fist
When Bob Iger publicly admitted that Disney had “quietly” canceled some previously announced projects earlier this month, speculation began to run rampant online about what films had been axed.
For Marvel fans, one name that consistently came up was the planned sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Following the pandemic-era success of the first Shang-Chi film, Marvel quickly announced that a sequel was in development.
Since that time, however, updates have been few and far between.
The Project Seemed Troubled
Shang-Chi has now not appeared in the MCU (outside of animation) for over five years. Meanwhile, director Daniel Destin Cretton has exited Avengers 5, and Simu Liu suffered a serious leg injury.
When asked about Shang-Chi 2 recently, Liu sounded less than confident in the character’s return.
“Oh man, I don’t know to be honest,” Liu recently said of when Shang-Chi is likely to make his MCU return. “I mean, those things are so above my pay grade. I just wanna continue to be a fan of it. You know, when I get a call of like, ‘Hey, this is what you’re in and this is where you’re going to show up. And, this is when you’re going to need to be blacked out for.'”
Production Will Begin in 2025
Well, Shang-Chi fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, production on Shang-Chi 2 will begin next year, and Crettonw will return to direct.
The film’s plot is said to revolve around time travel, and Iron Fist will finally be introduced to the MCU!
Interestingly, a European copyright by Marvel for the name Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time seems to support Richtman’s reporting.
While we may not know a ton about Shang-Chi 2, by the sound of things, more news should come soon!
