Disney Has Been Awarded a Patent For a Drone That Looks Suspiciously Like Grogu’s Pram
The Walt Disney Company has filed a patent for a drone that looks suspiciously familiar.
The patent, which is technically for an “airframe of a volitant body,” was originally filed in December 2020 and granted on February 13, 2024.
The abstract of the patent reads:
“Systems, methods, and apparatuses for an airframe of a volitant body are presented herein. An apparatus may include a body having a normal axis. The body comprising a central air passage communicating through the body along the normal axis of the body. The central air passage may have an inlet at a first end of the body and an outlet at a second end of the body, the second end being opposite the first end. Central air passage may form an interior surface of the body. The central air passage permitting a flow of air through the body via the central air passage. The inlet may be formed to produce a Venturi effect in the flow of air passing through the central air passage from the inlet to the outlet by choking the flow of air at the inlet.”
What Is Disney Cooking Up?
Essentially, Disney has filed a patent for a specific kind of drone. The filing goes on to explain that drones will typically expose users to spinning propellers and/or plastic rail guards that provide minimal protection.
The newly designed drone would essentially enclose the propellers, while anything inside the pram would also be elevated above the propellers, keeping them away from harm.
Since the publication of the patent, fans have been quick to point out that the new drone looks suspiciously similar to the pram that Grogu uses in The Mandalorian.
Perhaps then, Disney will attempt to create some kind of real-life Grogu pram for use in Galaxy’s Edge?
The patent was awarded to Clifford W. Wong, Michael P. Goslin, and Stephen A. Thornton.
It should also be noted that the new drone is referred to as a “flying toy device,” meaning Disney could have other ideas for the pram in mind. Perhaps a flying Grogu toy?
I guess we will have to wait and see.
