Asajj Ventress Voice Actor Says ‘The Bad Batch’ Is Just the Beginning of Her Character’s Return
So far, the big surprise in Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3 has been the reintroduction of the fan-favorite villain Asajj Ventress.
Ventress originally debuted in the 2003 Star Wars comic Jedi: Mace Windu but rose to prominence in the Clone Wars animated series.
A former Sith apprentice of Count Doku, Ventress began her arc as a bitter enemy of Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano.
A Unique Star Wars Character
Originally hailing from Dathomir, Ventress continued to grow strong in the Dark Side of the Force, eventually drawing the attention of Darth Sidious. Growing increasingly weary of her strength, Palpatine ordered Dooku to eliminate Ventress.
The Nightsister would survive Dooku’s attempt on her life. Swearing revenge, she became a bounty hunter and, eventually, something of an uneasy ally to Tano and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Ventress’ story was picked up in the Star Wars book Dark Disciple, where she seemingly sacrificed herself to save Jedi Master Quilan Vos. Dying at Dooku’s hand, it seemed as if the tumultuous times of Asajj Ventress had come to an end.
A Mysterious Return
Then came The Bad Batch Season 3.
Fans were understandably stunned to see Ventress appear in the trailer for the third season of the Disney+ animated series, as the character had been killed in Star Wars canon. According to Bad Batch head writer Jennifer Corbett and supervising director Brad Rau, however, they did not contradict anything that happened in Dark Disciple.
While Ventress’ return has yet to be fully explained, according to her voice actor Nika Futterman, the former Sith padawan’s comeback is only beginning.
“Just an Appetizer”
Responding to a question by X user @drunkwooky at Planet Comicon this weekend, Futterman had this to say:
“It’s all very exciting. But ‘The Bad Batch’ is just an appetizer for what’s to come.”
At this time, it is unclear how the animated universe of Star Wars will continue following the end of The Bad Batch.
By the sound of things, however, plans are in motion at Lucasfilm, and we will see Asajj Ventress again. Maybe we will even get to see a live-action version of the character in Ahsoka season 2?
