Bob Iger Responds to Gina Carano’s ‘Mandalorian’ Lawsuit With One Word
Disney CEO Bob Iger is not getting into the mud with Elon Musk over Gina Carano’s Mandalorian lawsuit.
For those who haven’t been keeping up, Carano was fired from the popular Star Wars Disney+ streaming series after a slew of right-wing social media posts.
The post that seemingly got the actress fired read, “Most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Three years after she was fired from The Mandalorian, Carano is suing Lucasfilm and Disney, alleging that she was terminated for simply voicing right-wing opinions on social media.
Gina Carano’s Accusations Against Disney and Lucasfilm
Carano accuses both Disney and Lucasfilm of harassment and defamation after she refused to “conform” to their views on issues such as Black Lives Matter, preferred pronouns, and election interference.
Carano says she was fired for her cultural and religious beliefs. Meanwhile, she argues, Disney did nothing when her male costars made offensive posts directed at Republicans. Specifically, she cites Pedro Pascal’s 2017 post comparing former president Donald Trump to Hitler.
The Elon Musk Factor
Interestingly, Carano’s suit is being funded by vocal Disney antagonist Elon Musk, who is making good on a promise to pay the legal bills for users of X, who claim they were discriminated against due to their activity on the platform.
Musk, of course, has been a vocal critic of Bob Iger and Disney ever since the company temporarily suspended advertising on the social media platform.
Bob Iger’s Response
Ahead of Disney’s Q1 earnings call, Bob Iger sat down with CNBC and was asked what his thoughts were on Musk backing the suit and potentially others like it.
“None,” Iger said briskly.
Clearly, Bob Iger is not happy with the Carano situation, but he also does not want to see Disney in another high-profile feud.
Still, with both Musk and the Florida Governor chomping at the bit to score points with their bases, Disney may not have a choice.
