This Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes Star Would Love to Play Mystique in the MCU
If anyone at Marvel Studios is listening, Ashley Liao would love to continue following in Jennifer Lawrence’s footsteps.
Liao played Coriolanus Snow’s friend Clemensia Dovecote in The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Perhaps taking inspiration from original Hunger Games star Lawernce, the 22-year-old actress has her sights set on a Marel role.
Before Lawrence ever played Katniss Everdeen, she starred in X-Men: First Class as a young Mystique.
It is a role that Liao would love to play.
“Oh my gosh. I mean, I feel like if I could go back in time, I would’ve loved to have been Mystique. Something about the way that Jennifer Lawrence did that, though, I don’t know that I could have filled those shoes, but I love her character. I love that blue. It’s mesmerizing. But I really feel for how much she probably had to sit in hair and makeup for all of that. I know that the prosthetics and all of that, it just takes a long time.”
Playing Mystique Was Grueling
Lawrence has been open about the difficulty of getting made up as Mystique for the X-Men films. For First Class, the actress had to spend seven hours in makeup.
While producers made things a little easier for X-Men: Days of Future Past (it only took 3 hours), it was still a grueling process.
Despite knowing what the role entails, however, Liao would still love to play Mystique.
“If you know Marvel, give them a call,” she said.
With the X-Men set to finally appear in the MCU soon, perhaps Liao will get her chance.
