Work Continues on the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe Exterior in Magic Kingdom
The older I get, the more I find myself wandering through the Magic Kingdom’s shops and restaurants and admiring the theming and story they have to tell.
There was a time when I could not have been bothered to stop at a Disney store for all the money in the world. Instead, I was focused on riding as many attractions as possible and getting my paper FastPass for Splash Mountain.
These days, however, I take in the Disney Parks at a more leisurely pace, and I have a newfound appreciation for the shops and sights that pepper the resort.
Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe
One of my favorite stores in the Magic Kingdom to explore is Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Liberty Square.
Lost on most visitors to Liberty Square, Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe tells a story of its own.
The shop is set at the close of the 18th Century when Americans now had the freedom to celebrate Christmas.
The store is actually made up of the Music Teacher’s Shop, a Woodcarver’s Shop, and the home of a family of Pennsylvania Germans.
According to the shop’s backstory, which was written by former Imagineer Shawn Slater, “At Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe of Liberty Square, Christmas comes anew with the dawning of each day. Its spirit alive forever in the hearts and homes of its residents.”
Construction on the Facade Continues
Today, when visiting Liberty Square, we noticed that work is continuing on the exterior of Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe.
Scrim covers the building’s front wall, making for a jumbled facade.
Here is a look at the building from the side, as you can see two planters have been put in place to block the construction.
The other side of the entry is also covered.
While most of the Ye Olde Christmas remains covered, it doesn’t appear as if the construction is overly intrusive.
Hopefully, work will conclude quickly, and Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe will return in all its glory.
