Emma Stone Gives a Promising Update On the Upcoming ‘Cruella’ Sequel
According to actress Emma Stone, we may be seeing Cruella de Vil on the big screen again “sooner rather than later.”
For those who don’t remember, Stone debuted a new interpretation of the classic Disney villain in 2021’s live-action Cruella.

Unlike many of Disney’s recent live-action releases, Cruella was not a remake of the classic animated film 101 Dalmatians. Instead, the film presented an origin story for the antagonist, presenting her as something of an anti-hero.
Cruella Fared Well At the Box Office
Despite being released simultaneously on Disney with Premier Access due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruella still managed to bring in $233.5 million at the box office, with Stone’s performance lauded by critics and fans alike.

Shortly after the film’s release in June 2021, Disney announced that a sequel was in the early stages of development, with Stone and Thompson expected to return.
Emma Stone Gives an Update
While updates on the second Cruella have been few and far between as of late, on the red carpet for the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Stone revealed that the sequel was “a work in progress” that will begin “hopefully sooner rather than later.”
Disney’s streaming efforts also include original motion pictures that launced this year in both theatres and on Disney+, including “Cruella.”

While the details were vague, it is good to hear that a second Cruella film is still in the works.
When asked about reprising her role, Stone sounded enthusiastic.

“It’s a blast. She’s a blast. So yeah, we’ll see. It’s a work in progress.”
While it may be a while before we see Stone don her iconic Cruella de Vil wig, it sounds like production of a Cruella sequel is heading in the right direction.
