Ana Ofelia Murgia, “Coco” Voice Actress, Dies at 90
It is sad news and with a heavy heart that we report on the passing of Ana Ofelia Murguía. The famous Mexican actress had an amazing career and is most noted in the U.S. for her role in Disney’s “Coco.”
A Mexican state arts organization announced Sunday that the talented actress passed away at 90 years old.
The National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature shared:
With deep sadness, we regret the sensitive death of the leading actress Ana Ofelia Murguía, who was part of the stable cast of the National Theater Company of Mexico, and whose artistic career was vital for the performing arts of Mexico.
Award-Winning Actress
Murguía was an award-winning actress with a career spanning multiple decades. She was featured in numerous film, theater and television shows.
In addition to her illustrious career, Murguía was recognized and received the lifetime achievement Golden Ariel award in 2011 for her 40 years on the stage and screen.
She also received the prestigious Mexican film industry award in 2011, and has been nominated six times at the Ariel awards. Her recognition includes best supporting actress winning in 1979, 1986 and 1996.
Murguía was nominated numerous times for Best Actress at the Ariel Awards and holds the record for most nominations without a win.
Ana Ofelia Murgia is best known outside of Mexico for her role in Disney Pixar’s ” Coco.” She portrayed the voice actress for the elderly great-grandmother Mama Coco.
