Rose Bowl Tradition Continues at Disneyland!
The Rose Bowl is almost here, so naturally the two participating teams spent a day having fun at Disneyland!
What? Did you know that this visit to Disneyland Resort each year is a tradition that dates back to 1955? That was the first year that Disneyland first welcomed Rose Bowl teams Michigan State and UCLA, starting a tradition that lives on today.
Disneyland has hosted many Rose Bowl teams in the past, and this week, the theme park hosted Michigan and Alabama.
The Happiest Place on Earth and The Tournament of Roses
Disney Parks Blog recently shared special moments between Disney and the Rose Bowl.
In 1966, Walt Disney was the Grand Marshal of the Tournament of Roses Parade, with nephew Roy E. Disney. In 2005, Mickey Mouse also served as the Grand Marshal!
Tradition Continues
Today, the tradition continues as Michigan and Alabama paid a visit to Disneyland on their way to the Rose Bowl!
The teams met for their first official pregame appearance in a classic horse and carriage on Main Street, U.S.A… The carriages carried Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh and Michigan players: defensive back Mike Sainristil, defensive lineman Kris Jenkins, and running back Blake Corum.
The appearance also included Alabama Head Coach Nick Saban and Alabama players: quarterback Jalen Milroe, linebacker Dallas Turner, and defensive back Malachi Moore.
The pre-parade included more guest appearances by the 2024 President of The Tournament of Roses, Alex P. Aghajanian, as well as the 2024 Rose Queen Naomi Stilitano and the Royal Court.
The Pasadena City College Tournament of Roses Honor Band provided the amazing music!
After the special appearance, the players had fun riding Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and took a group photo with Mickey in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Be sure to tune in where the two teams will play in the College Football Playoff at the Rose Bowl Game presented by Prudential. The game airs at 2 p.m. PT on Monday, January 1st on ESPN and the ESPN app.
