Disney Wins Big at the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards
The 2nd Annual Children’s and Family Emmy Awards announced their winners last weekend, with Disney walking away as a big winner.
The awards were previously handed out as part of the Daytime Emmys before being spun off into their own ceremony.
The Muppets and Marvel Win Big
Among the Disney properties to bring home an Emmy was the recently canceled The Muppets Mayhem. The Disney+ series that saw The Electric Mayhem set off to record their first record won the award for best Children’s or Family Viewing Series.
In the Young Teen Series category, The Crossover beat out its Disney+ brethren, High School Musical: The Musical and The Mysterious Benedict Society, to bring home the award.
Marvel also got some much-needed good news, with The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special winning the award for Best Fiction Special. The studio also brought home the Emmy for Best Short Form Program for I Am Groot.
Individual Winners
On the individual level, Tony Hale won the Lead Performance in a Preschool, Children’s, or Young Teen Program award for his role as Mr. Benedict in The Mysterious Benedict Society.
Mykal-Michelle Harris similarly won the Emmy for Younger Performer in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program for her role as Alice Baxter in Raven’s Home.
Outside of Disney, the big winner was Jack Black, who won the Emmy for Voice Performance in a Children’s or Young Teen Program.
Black accepted the award in person and called his turn as Yo in Kung Fu Panda the “role of a lifetime.”
“I’m really nervous and stoked to be here,” he added, noting that he was cast in the role 20 years ago. “It’s been the role of a lifetime. I’ve had so much fun over the years.”
