Magic Kingdom’s Sea Serpent’s Special Effects Turned on For the First Time in Years
One of the few remaining remnants from Magic Kingdom’s opening day has been refurbished and is now looking better than ever!
No, I am not talking about “it’s a small world,” the Country Bear Jamboree, or the Haunted Mansion. I am talking about the sea serpent topiary that has lined the shores of Magic Kingdom’s moat since 1971.
A Magic Kingdom Original
If you have ever taken the trip from the Hub to Tomorrowland, you have likely seen our leafy friend “swimming” through the grass.
For over 50 years, the sea serpent topiary has been the subject of home movies, photographs, and even slides.
However, the two special effects tied into the topiary have not worked in recent years.
You may or may not know this, but the serpent has glowing blue eyes and on occasion will breathe smoke!
An Old Friend Looks Good as New
Today, when visiting our old friend at the Magic Kingdom, we were happy to see that the sea serpent topiary effects are working again!
That’s right, once again, guests walking toward Tomorrowland can see the steely blue eyes of the sea serpent light up.
Additionally, the create is once again “breathing.”
The sea serpent topiary has been a staple of the Magic Kingdom since before the first guest stepped foot in the park. Here is a video of the breathing effect in action. It looks great!
It may not be an attraction in and of itself, but the topiary is just the kind of detail that makes Walt Disney World so magical.
