How Cast Members Became Official Citizens of Arendelle For World of Frozen Grand Opening

Disney is so committed to authenticity, that Cast Members working in the new Frozen land had to go through unique training to become official citizens of Arendelle.
Finding the Right Cast Members
As the finishing touches were being added to the land, several Arendelle talent fairs were held. The events took place within Hong Kong Disneyland and outside the resort.

At the fairs, Disney searched for people who loved to interact with guests and would fully immerse them into the story of World of Frozen.

“Recruitment is the very first step in identifying cast members who can embody the roles of citizens of Arendelle. During interviews, some cast members brought with them ‘Frozen’ inspired props and accessories,” said Evelyn Lam, manager, Front of House Talent Acquisition, Human Resources. “I really felt like they were leading the interviewers into World of Frozen itself. I was impressed by their passion – they really set the bar high!”
Understanding Arendelle
Before Cast Members could become official citizens of Arendelle, however, they first had to take part in an interactive workshop hosted by Disney University and the Entertainment team.

“The workshop was full of group discussions and role play that allowed cast members to transform into citizens of Arendelle based on their individual characteristics and backgrounds,” shared Cassandra Shum, Manager of Culture, In-story, Operation Training, and Human Resources.
According to Disney, Cast Members went through activities and simulations that resembled living in the land of Arendelle. They were also encouraged to “incorporate their own hobbies, interests, and personalities into their roles as citizens.”

“This training helps them quickly integrate into life in Arendelle and understand the environment, culture, and characters of the world, while also creating their own stories through their roles,” added Angela Lam, Show Director, Entertainment.
Cast Members also learned about the customs of Arendelle, including the kingdom’s music and dances.
Kenny Avila, an entertainment Cast Member, felt proud and prepared for his role as a Welcoming Ambassador after going through training.

“The more I discover about this place, the more I am able to share,” he said.
A Royal Event
After months of training, Cast Members were ready to become official citizens of Arendelle. Hundreds of royal invitations were signed by Queen Anna. They were then hand-delivered by the royal mail-boy, inviting the newly christened citizens to a grand celebration.

On the day of the big event, the citizens of Arendelle, including royal attendants, restaurant staff, sailors, fishers, confectioners, and toy carvers, put on their fine clothes and gather at Arendelle Village for the special occasion.
Each Cast Member then proudly crossed the King Agnarr Bridge as the Royal Household Entertainers called their names one by one.
