Haydon Burns Confirms Disney is Coming to Florida (1965)
On this day in 1965, Florida Governor Haydon Burns confirmed that Disney was coming to the state.
At the time Burns said Disney “will build the greatest attraction yet known in the history of Florida.”
The Magic Kingdom Dedication (1971)
On this day in 1971, the Magic Kingdom was officially dedicated.
The park’s dedication was read by Roy O. Disney with Mickey Mouse standing by his side.
Mickey’s Character Shop Opens (1985)
On this day in 1985, Mickey’s Character Shop opened at Disney’s Village Marketplace.
Eric Larson Passes Away (1988)
On this day in 1988, Disney Legend Eric Larson passed away at age 83.
Larson was one of Walt’s original “Nine Old Men” and worked on classic Disney films from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs through The Great Mouse Detective.
Broccoli & Co. Closes (1993)
On this day in 1993, Broccoli & Co. closed in The Land pavilion.
The shop was known for its Kitchen Kabaret merchandise.
Under Wraps Premieres (1997)
On this day in 1997, the Disney Channel Original Movie Under Wraps premiered.
The film tells the story of three kids who discover a mummy in the basement of a dead man’s house.
The Famous Jett Jackson Premieres (1998)
On this day in 1998, The Famous Jett Jackson premiered on the Disney Channel.
The show followed the adventures of teenage spy Jett Jackson.
Disney Universe Released (2011)
Finally, on this day in 2011, Disney Universe was released.
The co-op action-adventure game was created by Disney Interactive Studios.
