September 17 was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the release of a groundbreaking video game, an expansion of the Disney Vacation Club and a Disneyland reunion. So, let’s get started!
The Whoopee Party Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, the Mickey Mouse cartoon The Whoopee Party was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey and his friends throw a wild party that even sees the lamps come to life and join in the fun.
Once Upon A Wintertime Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, Once Upon A Wintertime was released.
The animated musical short was originally featured in the film Melody Time and told the story of two romantic lovers Joe and Jenny on a winter day.
Disney Signs Sterling Holloway (1957)
On this day in 1957, Sterling Holloway signed his first contract with the Walt Disney Music Company.
The agreement ensured that he would be featured on recordings. Holloway would go on to voice numerous Disney characters including Winnie the Pooh.
A Golden Horseshoe Revue Reunion Takes Place (1995)
On this day in 1995, a Golden Horseshoe Revue Reunion took place at the Wells Fargo Theater in California.
Performers included Wally Boag, Fulton Burley, and Betty Taylor.
Kingdom Hearts Released (2002)
On this day in 2002, Kingdom Hearts was released in North America.
The video game was the result of a collaboration between Square and The Walt Disney Company. The game, follows the journey of Sora and features a crossover of various Disney characters.
Rolly Crump named a Disney Legend (2004)
On this day in 2004, Imagineer Rolly Crump was named a Disney Legend.
Disney Vacation Club Announces Polynesian Expansion
On this day in 2013, the Disney Vacation Club announced that it was expanding into Disney’s Polynesian Resort.
The expansion would eventually come to life in the form of the Polynesian bungalows.
A New Tomorrowland Sign Debuts (2019)
Finally, on this day in 2019, the new Tomorrowland entrance sign debuted at the Magic Kingdom.
The new sleek marquee replaced the old entrance sign which featured elements of the Tomorrowland 94 backstory.
