Disney Suspends Production Deals Amidst Ongoing Hollywood Strikes
The Walt Disney Company has become the latest company to suspend production deals, more than four months after the WGA strike began.
According to a report from Deadline, the majority of the deals with non-writing producers across Disney’s Television divisions have been impacted. This includes 20th Television, ABC Signature, FX productions, and Disney Branded Television.
The more reportedly does not apply to producers who are not working due to the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
What Deals Disney Has Paused
According to sources, Disney will pay the suspended term deals to provide salaries for their assistants through the end of 2023 and for development executives through the first week of October.
Among the names whose deals have been suspended include Gina Rodriguez, Justin Hartley, Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Yara Shahidi, Hiro Murai, Bily Porter, and Stacey Sher. Producers are still being notified, and more could be added to the list.
With their latest move, Disney has joined Warner Brothers, NBCUniversal, and CBS Studios, and companies that have suspended production deals over the last week. Among the other names who have seen their deals paused are Greg Berlanti, Bill Lawernce, Mindy Kaling, Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video, and Dwayne Johnson’s Seven Bucks Prods.
A Sign of the Times
While the latest moves by the studios point to the extended nature of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, unlike the 2007-2008 writers’ strike, there have been no deal terminations yet.
