If you are planning on traveling on United Airlines today, be warned. The airline has issued a nationwide ground stop due to a computing issue.
All United Airlines flights have currently been halted, with delays and cancelations taking place across the country.
The FAA reported the stoppage at approximately 1:05 ET, noting that United was “unable to contact their dispatch through normal means.” There is currently no word on when flights will resume.
United Releases Statement
About thirty minutes later, United released a statement noting that they were holding all aircraft at their departure airport. Additionally, they announced that flights already airborne would continue to their destinations as planned.

“We are experiencing a systemwide technology issue and are holding all aircraft at their departure airports. Flights that are already airborne are continuing to their destination as planned. We will share more information as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience as we work on a resolution to get you on your way as soon as possible,” the company wrote.
Secretary Of Transportation Pete Buttigieg Responds
Pete Buttigieg the United States Secretary of Transportation also posted on social media that he was aware of the issues and that the Department of Transportation would “make sure UA meets its obligations to affected passengers.
Am aware of the nationwide ground stop at United Airlines due to IT issues. FAA is currently receiving more information about the cause and scope of the issue, and DOT will make sure UA meets its obligations to affected passengers.
