‘Ahsoka’ Star Natasha Liu Bordizzo Remembers Ray Stevenson
One of the truly great characters in Ahsoka has been the late Ray Stevenson’s Baylan Skoll.
The former Jedi turned mercenary has managed to bridge the gap between Jedi and Sith, and add yet another interesting take on a force-sensitive character.
Fan reaction to the addition of Skoll has been overwhelmingly positive, with many fans pointing to Stevenson’s character as the breakout star of the show.
Tragically, however, Stevenson passed away in May at just 58 years old. In Ahsoka, the brilliant actor may have saved his best for last.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo Pays Tribute To Stevenson
In a recent issue of SFX magazine Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who portrays Sabine Wren in Ahsoka, took some time to reflect on the life of Stevenson and the time they spent together.
Remembering their time filming the new Star Wars series, Bordizzo described Stevenson as a “larger than life person” with whom she shared “a lot of great, great scenes with”.
Speaking of Stevenson’s passing, Bordizzo said that while she was “really sad”, she also was “grateful” for the time they got to spend together.
“It really comes through in the character, who’s really intriguing, complex, and not what you expect. I obviously feel really sad but grateful that we got to spend that whole year with him last year, creating so many memories and shooting such amazing stuff,” she said.
Rosario Dawson Remembers Ray
Bordizzo isn’t the first Ahsoka star to speak fondly of their time working with Stevenson. Rosario Dawson who plays the titular former Jedi has been effusive in her praise of the late actor.
“You just had the most extraordinary conversations with him about his family and philosophies,” she says. “I’ve had so many people who I know are friends with him. We were so blessed to have him working with us. He made all of us better.”
Like Bordizzo, Dawson also talked about the enthusiasm that Stevenson brought to his role, particularly when they were engaged in a lightsaber duel.
“I was like fighting for my life [while filming fight sequences with Stevenson]. And I was talking about that with Dave [Filoni]. I was like, am I gonna be able to talk about how heavy-handed he was?” Dawson tells PEOPLE. “‘Cause he was just like, woo. I was like I’m really having to protect myself here. We’re putting in the work.”
The first three episodes of Ahsoka are streaming on Disney+.
