Disney Gives a Glimpse at a Slew of Upcoming Documentaries
With Hollywood shut down due to the ongoing WGA and SGA-AFTRA strikes, Disney+ is highlighting a slew of new documentaries coming to the streaming service in the future.
At the Edinburgh TV Festival on Wednesday, Disney executives gave guests a preview of some of the new productions coming to the streaming service.
‘Camden’
In the upcoming documentary series Camden, Disney+ will put the spotlight on music stars such as Dua Lipa, Coldpay’s Chris Martin, Mark Ronson, Little Simz, Boy George and the Black Eyed Peas. The film will explore how the lives of these famous musicians were influenced by London’s Camden neighborhood.
The documentary was produced by Lightbox in association with Day One Pictures and Dua Lipa’s production company Radical22.
‘World War Shoe: Adidas Vs. Puma’
Also announced at the festival was World War Shoe: Adidas vs. Puma, a new three-part docu-series.
“It explores the inner workings of two of the biggest sporting brands in the world, with a unique shared history and rivalry,” reads the show’s description.
“Through unprecedented access to both companies, the series will uncover the unlikely and surprising tale of two feuding brothers — Adi and Rudi Dassler — whose multi-decade rivalry and competition helped shape the modern sportswear industry.”
The series was produced by David Beckham’s Studio 99 and will feature contributions from Usain Bolt, Neymar, and Zinedine Zidane.
‘Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story’
Last but not least, DIsney+ also released a first look at the upcoming four-part documentary Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story, which will star Keanu Reeves.
The show “tells the remarkable story of how, in 2009, competing in the most expensive and technologically advanced racing series on Earth, the impossible happened.”
An Exciting Future
When reflecting on the upcoming series, Sean Doyle, Disney+ director of original production and unscripted general entertainment for Europe and Africa, expressed the company’s excitement.
“We’ve spent the past year making ambitious documentaries with exclusive access to A-list names with the best creative talent in the business,” said Doyle. “It’s been great to see the reactions to Finding Michael and Save Our Squad with David Beckham and I can’t wait for audiences to see what else we’ve been up to and discover stories they may not expect to see on Disney+.”
