The CFTOD Asks Florida Judge To Rule Against Disney Without Trial
Attornies representing the Central Florida Torusim Oversight District (CFTOD) in their state court battle with The Walt Disney Company have asked the judge to rule without trial against Disney.
The lawsuit stems from last-minute binding agreements that Disney made with the Reedy Creek Improvement District in the weening days of that entity’s existence.

The agreements essentially gave Disney control over the land that makes up Walt Disney World in perpetuity. When discovered, the binding deals hampered the newly created DeSantis-appointed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District’s governing power.
The CFTOD’s Argument
The CFTOD is arguing that Reedy Creek didn’t give proper notice, lacked authority, and unlawfully delegated government authority to a private entity when making the agreements.
Although DeSantis and Florida lawmakers subsequently passed legislation that repealed those agreements, the CFTOD is still hoping that a Florida judge will rule the agreements illegal.
Last week, a Florida judge rejected Disney’s motion to dismiss the case.

DeSantis Urges Disney to Drop Suit
At the same time that the CFTOD is suing Disney in state court, The Walt Disney Company has filed a suit against Govenor Ron DeSantis, alleging that decision to dissolve Reedy Creek was made in retaliation for Disney speaking out against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which critics have dubbed Don’t Say Gay.
In an interview with CNBC on Monday, DeSantis urged Diseny to drop the suit and claimed that he and his allies have moved on.

“They’re suing the state of Florida. They’re going to lose that lawsuit,” DeSantis said
