Welcome back to our magical trip through Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- August 13.
August 13th was a big day in Disney hsitory, with the premeire of an animated classic, the beginning of work at Disneyland, and record day for Diseny on Broadway.
Mickey’s Nightmare Released (1932)
On this day in 1932, Mickey’s Nightmare was released.
In the cartoon, Mickey dreams that he and Minnie are married, but his dream turns into a nightmare when the stork delivers too many baby mice.
Bambi Premieres in the United States (1943)
On this day in 1943, Disney’s Bambi had its U.S. premiere at Radio City Music Hall.
The animated classic was a coming-of-age story about a young doe who loses his mother.
Cat Nap Pluto Released (1948)
On this day in 1948, Cat Nap Pluto was released.
In the cartoon Pluto comes home from a long night, but has to battle with Figaro for the right to take a nap.
Site Clearing Begins at Disneyland (1954)
On this day in 1954, work began on the future sight of Disneyland.
Construction began with the removal of walnut and orange trees.
Grin and Bear It Released (1954)
On this day in 1954, the Disney short Grin and Bear It was released.
Starring Donald Duck and Humphrey the Bear, the cartoon also featured the first appearance of Ranger Audubon J. Woodlore.
Beauty and the Beast Hits Milestone (1995)
On this day in 1995, the one-millionth patron attended Disney’s Beauty and the Beast on Broadway.
The show debuted on April 18, 1994 and was a massive success.
Aladdin and the King of Thieves Released (1996)
On this day in 1996, Disney’s Aladdin and the King of Thieves was released direct-to-video.
The film was a sequel to Disney’s 1994 animated feature film Aladdin.
Walt Disney World Information Center Closed (2005)
On this day in 2005, the Walt Disney World Information Center closed.
Located just off Interstate 75 and State Road 200, the information center had operated for 18 years.
Den Brother Premieres (2010)
On this day in 2010, the Disney Channel Original Movie Den Brother premieres.
The film told teh story of a teen who gets suspended from his hockey team and ends up fillin gin as his sister’s Bumble Bee Troop Leader.
Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja Premiers (2012)
On this day in 2012, Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja premierd on Disney XD.
The film to the story of a ninth-grader who is an unlikely hero with a superhuman ninja suit.
The Great Movie Ride Closes (2017)
On this day in 2017, The Great Movie Ride closed at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The attraction had been the park’s signature attraction since the park opened on May 1, 1989. On the Great Movie Ride, guests were transported through some of the most famous movies in history.
Ellen’s Energy Adventure (2017)
Also on this day in 2017, Ellen’s Energy Adventure closed at EPCOT.
Located inside the Universe of Energy pavilion, the attraction opened in 1996. The original Universe of Energy attraction opened with the rest of EPCOT Center on October 1, 1982.
