‘She-Hulk’ Star Tatiana Maslany Blasts Bog Iger
She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany took aim at Disney CEO Bob Iger for his comments on the ongoing Hollywood strikes.
In a July 13th interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box”, Iger expressed his frustration at the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
“It’s very disturbing to me. We’ve talked about disruptive forces on this business and all the challenges we’re facing, the recovery from COVID which is ongoing, it’s not completely back. This is the worst time in the world to add to that disruption,” Iger said.
“I understand any labor organization’s desire to work on behalf of its members to get the most compensation and be compensated fairly based on the value that they deliver. We managed, as an industry, to negotiate a very good deal with the directors guild that reflects the value that the directors contribute to this great business. We wanted to do the same thing with the writers, and we’d like to do the same thing with the actors. There’s a level of expectation that they have, that is just not realistic. And they are adding to the set of the challenges that this business is already facing that is, quite frankly, very disruptive.”
Backlash Against Iger
Iger’s comments were quickly pounced upon by writers and actors alike. The following day, Fran Drescher, president of SAG-AFTRA blasted Iger for being out of touch. She even compared the Disney CEO to a medieval land baron.
Subsequently, other actors including Sean Gunn and Bryan Cranston have publically taken aim at Iger. Now, another Marvel star has entered the fray.
Tatiana Maslany Speaks Out
From the picket line, She-Hulk star Tatiana Maslany lambasted Iger as “out of touch”. Responding to Iger’s July comments.
“I think he’s completely out of touch,” Maslany said of the Disney CEO’s opinionated statements. “He’s completely out of touch with the workers who make his shows happen. Who makes people watch these shows, who bring viewers to him and his money. Having worked on a Disney show, I know where people fall through the cracks and where people are taken advantage of and it’s outrageous the amount of wealth that is not shared with the people who actually make the show. That’s crew, cast, writers.”
Maslany is expected to be a big part of the MCU moving forward, so it’s interesting to hear the actress striking out at her theoretical boss.
Iger’s July comments have been a big misstep for an executive who was previously known for choosing his words carefully.
While all will likely be forgiven once the strike ends, for now at least, Bob Iger continues to be persona non grata among Hollywood’s creative talent.
