Justin Simien Talks Potential ‘Haunted Mansion’ Sequel Ideas
While Haunted Mansion may not have made the box office splash that Disney was hoping for, there is still a chance that the movie could be a success for Disney.
The film will hit Disney+ just in time for the Halloween season and will look to join the ranks of Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus as holiday classics.

Additionally, films like Elemental have shown that a film can overcome a slow start and still find its audience.
Should the Haunted Mansion find success, director Justin Simien thinks it could be fun to create more Haunted Mansion stories, perhaps focusing on some of Disneyland’s attraction’s international variations.

“I think that’d be super fun. I mean, there’s certainly a resemblance… There’s another mansion that we go to in the movie that has a certain resemblance to another mansion that exists in America.”
Simien Believes There Should Be More ‘Mansion’ Movies
Regardless of how the film would play out, Simien believes that “there should definitely be more Haunted Mansion movies”

“Anyway, and I, I will say that we definitely laid a lot of groundwork, should there be more ‘Haunted Mansion’ movies to go to some of these other places. You know, that, to me, is absolutely the fun of it. And I thought what was so brilliant about the script that Katie [Dippold] wrote is by the time you get to the end of this movie, it’s not like you’ve solved all of the mysteries of the mansion.”
More Stories To Tell
Even if future Haunted Mansion movies continued to center on the mansion that audiances saw in the previous film, Simien believes there are still more stories to tell. After all the film didn’t end with a dearth of ghosts.

“There are still so many stories, there are still so many questions lingering about the ghosts that inhabit that house, but also how they get around and where else in the world these kinds of ghosts could be. So I certainly hope that, you know, it sort of keeps all of those things alive. Because I love all of that lore. I think it’s all really cool.”
While the Haunted Mansion would likely need to show more success either at the box office or in streaming. I for one would love to see more Mansion movies made.
