Welcome back to our continuing journey through the history of Disney’s past. Today we are looking at the events on this day in Disney history- July 29/
July 29th was a slower day in Disney history, but it still featured the debut of a Disney-MGM Studios attraction, the release of a classic Silly Symphony, and also the return of a Disneyland favorite. So, let’s get started!
The Shindig Released (1930)
On this day in 1930, the Mickey Mouse short The Shindig was released.
In the cartoon, Minnie, Horace, and Clarabelle attend a wild barn party!
Old King Cole Released (1933)
On this day in 1933, the Silly Symphony cartoon Old King Cole was released.
The Fox Hunt Released (1938)
On this day in 1938, the Donald Duck cartoon The Fox Hunt was released.
In the cartoon Goofy and Donald go hunting for a fox, only to catch a skunk!
Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N Released (1966)
On this day in 1966, Lt. Robin Crusoe, U.S.N. was released.
The film starred Dick Van Dyke and Nancy Kwan and was a comedic twist on the classic Daniel Defoe novel Robinson Crusoe.
The Parent Trap Released (1998)
On this day in 1998, The Parent Trap was released.
A remake of the 1961 Hayley Mills classic, the film starred Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and Lindsay Lohan who starred as Hallie Parker and Annie James, twins who are reunited at summer camp after being separated at birth.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith Opens (1999)
On this day in 1999, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith opened with a special, invitation-only party.
On hand for the event were Aerosmith, who rode the attraction with those in attendance.
Sky High Released (2005)
On this day in 2005, Sky High was released.
Starring Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston the film told the story of a school for young superheroes that floats above the skies.
Beauty and the Beast Ends Its Broadway Run (2007)
On this day in 2007, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast ended its run on Broadway.
The show had been running since April 18, 1994, but was closed to make way for Disney’s next Broadway musical- The Little Mermaid.
The Golden Gate Bridge Removed From Disney California Adventure
On this day in 2011, removal of the Golden Gate Bridge facade at Disney California Adventure was completed.
With the park going through a major transformation, the icon of the first iteration of the Disney California Adventure was removed.
Disneyland’s Rivers of America Reopens (2017)
Finally, on this day in 2017, the Mark Twain Riverboat and Rivers of America reopened at Disneyland.
The attraction and waterway had been shut down to facilitate the construction of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
