REVIEW: Measly Moussaka in Greece for the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival
We’re having the tastiest of Thursdays here at MickeyBlog, as our reporters are LIVE from the very first day of the 2023 EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival!
Yup, the most delicious of events is back with a bang at EPCOT, with so many things to see, do, and taste all across the park. All day, our reporters have been visiting each and every one of the marketplace kitchens, dotted around the World Showcase Lagoon, and providing us with reviews and more for each beautiful spot.
Right now, this adventure has taken us over to the friendly Greece booth, which lies just near the Japan pavilion. If you’re feeling like fresh eats full of Mediterranean flair, keep reading, as we’ll head on over to the booth and see what’s cooking!
First up on the menu is a delicious-sounding Lamb Gyro, consisting of a warm flatbread stuffed full of shaved lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and tzatziki. So dreamy!
Next, there’s a traditional Spanakopita, which is a sort of savory pie made from layers of pastry, spinach, and cheese. Sounds tasty!
Also on the menu is a Griddled Cheese dish, with pistachio nuts and honey.
This option is actually featured in the 2023 Emile’s Fromage Montage cheese crawl, which you can read all about here. Be sure to get your festival guide map stamped when you place your order!
Last up is the Plant-Based Impossible Moussaka. Not only is this dish completely new to the menu for 2023, but it’s also a completely plant-based item!
Our MickeyBloggers had to try it, so we placed our order and this is what we got:
Now, the first thing I’m going to say here is that this doesn’t look anything like the photo from the menu card listed above. Of course, we tried it anyway, but the unsettling presentation didn’t bode well for the review!
Disappointingly, our reporters weren’t big fans of this moussaka, agreeing that it wasn’t anything special, just a bit like a shepherd’s pie. Of course, we’re thrilled that Disney has been working hard to add more plant-based items to their menus, but this one wasn’t something we feel like we’d order again.
Oh well!
On the other hand, if it’s wine you’re looking for, we’re pleased to report that the Greece booth is certainly not going to disappoint. There are three tasty drinks to sample here, including a Mylonas Winery Assyrtiko White Wine, a Skouras ‘Zoe’ Rosé, and a Kir-Yianni Naoussa Xinomavro Dry Red.
If you can’t choose from these, there’s also the option of ordering a Wine Flight from this booth, in true festival style!
So, if the sound of a Mediterranean meal is enough to get your mouth watering, be sure to stop by the Greece booth during this year’s Food & Wine Festival. Just maybe don’t order that moussaka!
As always, you can stay tuned to MickeyBlog.com for all our reviews on each booth at the festival, as well as updates, news, and more from the rest of Walt Disney World and beyond. In the meantime, we’re so glad to have you joining us on this delicious EPCOT festival day!
