July 24th was a busy day in Disney history, with the opening of a new Disneyland land, the debut of a new Magic Kingdom restaurant, and the premiere of live-action film! So, let’s get going!
Donald’s Gold Mine Released (1942)
On this day in 1942, the Donald Duck cartoon Donald’s Gold Mine was released.
In the cartoon, Donald attempts to dig for gold, but is foiled by an uncooperative donkey.
New Orleans Square Opens (1966)
On this day in 1966, New Orleans Square opened in Disneyland.
New Orleans Square was the first new land added to the park since Disneyland’s opening in 1955.
Although the land would eventually be home to The Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, when the land opened it didn’t have any attractions.
The Black Cauldron Released (1985)
On this day in 1985, The Black Cauldron was released.
In the film, a young boy and a group of misfits embark on a journey to find a magical item before a tyrant can.
Tony’s Town Square Cafe Opens (1989)
On this day in 1989 Tony’s Town Square Cafe opened in the Magic Kingdom.
The restaurant replaced The Town Square Cafe, which had operated since 1971.
Johnny Tsunami Airs (1999)
On this day in 1999, Johnny Tsunami aired on The Disney Channel.
The film told the story of a surfer named Johnny Kaphala who moves from Hawaii to Vermont.
Sky High Premieres (2005)
On this day in 2005, Sky High premiered at the El Capitan Theater.
The film told the story about a school for teenage superheros.
G-Force Released (2009)
On this day in 2009, G-Force was released.
The film told the story of a specially trained squad of guinea pigs who are sent to stop a diabolical billionaire.
Rouge Trip Premiers (2020)
On this day in 2020, Rouge Trip premiered on Disney+.
The show was hosted by Bob Woodruff and his son Mack Woodruff who take viewers on journeys to places that the average tourist is unlikely to go.
Jungle Cruise Premieres (2021)
On this day in 2021, the Jungle Cruise premiered at Disneyland.
The event was hosted by PEOPLE, and featured stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
